The 17-year-old boy who was found guilty of killing the Steenkamp family on their farm in Griekwastad in 2010 has been sentenced to an effective 20 years in prison.
Northern Cape Judge President Frans Kgomo handed down sentence in the Northern Cape High Court on Wednesday.
According to Sapa, the boy was found guilty on 27 March of killing farmer Deon Steenkamp, 44, his wife Christel, 43, and their daughter Marthella, 14. He was also found guilty of raping the girl and lying to the police.The teen was sentenced to 20 years for each murder, 12 years for rape, and four years for defeating the ends of justice.
